Beyond alleviating traffic congestion, the Yopougon-Bingerville Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) system is a key component of the Ivorian government’s plan to equip the region with a modern and eco-friendly transportation network.

Financial Investment and Funding Sources
The construction of the BRT network was officially launched on Wednesday, July 10th, by Ivorian Prime Minister Robert Beugré Mambé, with an estimated total cost of 242 billion FCFA.
These funds are sourced from the World Bank and the French Development Agency (AFD), contributing 182 billion FCFA and 60 billion FCFA, respectively.
Private Sector Involvement in Operational Phase
The operational phase will require an additional investment of 77 billion FCFA, expected from the private sector, to finance the acquisition of rolling stock and the implementation of a ticketing system, among other expenses.
Once operational, the network is projected to transport between 300,000 and 500,000 passengers daily. Designed according to modern and sustainable transportation models, the project aims to provide passengers with a comfortable and environmentally conscious service.
Complementary to Abidjan Metro Lines
This network will complement the developing Abidjan metro lines, significantly increasing the availability of public transportation options. The metro, with construction expected to be completed in 2027, is projected to carry nearly 500,000 passengers per day.
These two transportation services will supplement the offerings of SOTRA (Abidjan Transport Company), whose current capacity is limited, contributing to the dominance of private minibus operators commonly known as “Gbaka.”
