BOURBON and Opsealog Forge Digital Alliance to Minimize Vessel Emissions

BOURBON, a global leader in marine services, is set to enhance the efficiency and reduce greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions across its entire fleet of 104 vessels.

This initiative is part of a new strategic partnership with Opsealog, a renowned expert in marine digitalization. The collaboration will leverage advanced fleet monitoring and data-driven optimization to achieve these goals.

This multi-year agreement builds upon a successful six-month pilot project involving 25 Offshore Supply Vessels (OSVs). The pilot demonstrated significant potential for emissions reduction, with an average monthly saving of 45 to 50 tonnes of CO2 per vessel.

The pilot’s success stemmed from the implementation of real-time fleet monitoring and improved digitalization of vessel reporting. This enabled Opsealog to pinpoint areas for efficiency improvement and provide tailored recommendations to BOURBON’s ship management teams.

The expanded partnership will encompass BOURBON Marine & Logistics’ entire fleet of Platform Supply Vessels (PSVs) and Anchor Handling Tug Supply vessels (AHTS), operating in diverse regions such as West Africa, Asia, and the Gulf of Mexico.

The collaboration will establish centralized fleet monitoring, incorporating real-time vessel tracking and streamlined reporting.

The collected data will be seamlessly integrated into Opsealog’s Marinsights platform, providing valuable insights that will empower BOURBON to optimize vessel operational profiles, ultimately reducing fuel consumption, GHG emissions, and operating costs.

This initiative aligns with BOURBON’s steadfast commitment to minimizing its environmental impact through fleet optimization.

Additionally, it will proactively prepare the company for forthcoming regulatory requirements in the OSV sector, including the EU’s emissions trading system (ETS) and Monitoring, Reporting, and Verification (MRV) regulations.

Frédéric Siohan, Standards & Innovation Director at Bourbon Marine & Logistics, emphasized that the partnership marks a significant milestone in the digitalization of their fleet, which began a decade ago with the design of highly efficient vessels equipped with Diesel Electric propulsion.

He highlighted the importance of data-driven insights for improving fleet performance and reducing carbon emissions, ultimately setting new benchmarks for operational excellence and leading the industry in sustainable practices.

Hugo Prigent, Account Manager at Opsealog, underscored the transformative potential of digitalization in driving operational efficiency and environmental responsibility.

He emphasized how the pilot project demonstrated the power of data to not only provide accurate insights into fuel consumption and carbon emissions but also to unlock actionable measures for immediate performance improvement. He expressed pride in expanding the partnership to cover BOURBON’s entire fleet and support their sustainability and performance ambitions.
