Southern University at New Orleans Awarded Over $300,000 for Energy Efficiency Upgrades

Southern University at New Orleans (SUNO) is set to receive approximately $380,000 in cash incentives from Energy Smart, Entergy New Orleans’ energy efficiency program. This funding will support a series of energy-saving upgrades across the university campus.

To date, SUNO has already benefited from $311,700 in incentives from Energy Smart, which has enabled the completion of six energy efficiency projects, including HVAC replacement, building automation systems installation, and LED lighting upgrades.

Notably, these upgrades were fully funded by the Energy Smart program.

Deanna Rodriguez, President and CEO of Entergy New Orleans, expressed pride in the partnership with SUNO, stating, “The funding provided to SUNO through the Energy Smart program not only helps cover the costs of their energy efficiency upgrades, but also supports SUNO in accomplishing its broader sustainability goals.”

SUNO remains dedicated to enhancing the energy efficiency and sustainability of its campus. With plans to finalize four additional projects scheduled for completion in July, the university anticipates further cash incentives estimated at $69,000.

Beyond the financial benefits, SUNO expects these upgrades to lead to substantial reductions in energy bills and a decrease in future maintenance requirements.

Dr. James H. Ammons, Jr., Chancellor of SUNO, emphasized the university’s role in promoting sustainability, saying, “As an institution of higher learning, Southern University at New Orleans should be leading the quest for a sustainable future for the betterment of not only our SUNO community, but for our planet as a whole.”

Energy Smart provides incentives to Entergy New Orleans business customers to implement energy-saving improvements in their operations.

By assisting customers in becoming more energy-efficient and sustainable, the program aligns with Entergy New Orleans’ broader commitment to reducing energy consumption in Orleans Parish.
