Honeywell’s Emissions Management Suite Gets Certified for Offshore Oil and Gas Operations

Honeywell’s Emissions Management Suite has achieved Hazardous Location (HazLoc) and marine certifications, making it a leading end-to-end solution for offshore oil and gas assets.

This enables comprehensive measurement, monitoring, reporting, and reduction of emissions, contributing to environmental sustainability efforts in the energy sector.

Furthermore, Honeywell has integrated new solar capabilities into the Honeywell Versatilis™ Signal Scout™ hardware within the Emissions Management Suite.

This innovation significantly extends the lifespan of the gas detector by over eight years with minimal additional maintenance requirements.

By enabling the energy industry to reduce its environmental footprint, the Emissions Management Suite aligns with Honeywell’s focus on key megatrends, including energy transition and automation.

Effective emissions management and monitoring are critical for shallow water offshore oil and gas platforms, which are known to have higher methane leakage rates compared to land-based operations.

Studies by Carbon Mapper indicate that methane loss rates from such platforms in the Gulf of Mexico can range from 23% to 66%, significantly higher than the 3.3% to 3.7% range observed in similar upstream land operations in the Permian Basin.

These undetected emissions can expose companies with offshore assets to regulatory scrutiny, including hyperspectral satellite inspections, which could lead to substantial fines if super-emitter events are detected.

Honeywell’s optimized solution provides offshore oil and gas assets with near real-time visibility into platform operations.

This empowers operators to respond quickly to events and effectively balance emissions performance with production goals.

At an enterprise level, the solution offers flexibility to maximize production from low-emission platforms while temporarily reducing output from high-emission assets until necessary repairs are completed.

This approach helps maintain production levels while simultaneously controlling emissions.

Pramesh Maheshwari, President of Honeywell Process Solutions, highlighted the company’s commitment to innovation, stating, “By continuing to innovate, Honeywell is now able to provide an end-to-end solution that enables marine vessels and offshore platforms to accurately measure and report fugitive emissions when they happen.”

He emphasized the role of Honeywell Forge Sustainability+ for Industrials software in helping companies achieve net-zero operations both on land and offshore.

Honeywell’s Emissions Management Suite is an effective solution for various sectors seeking to measure and reduce fugitive emissions. It is currently available for upstream and downstream oil and gas, refining, chemicals, utilities, and other industries.
