Abidjan’s 4th Bridge Toll Plaza Opens to Ease Traffic Congestion

The opening of the toll plaza, along with certain completed sections, serves as a prelude to the full operation of the 4th bridge, whose construction is nearing completion.

In Côte d’Ivoire, the government has opened the toll plaza on the under-construction 4th bridge in Abidjan to alleviate traffic congestion in specific urban areas.

“We have opened the road at Nangui Abrogua (Adjamé) and also allowed all users coming from the 16th district of Yopougon to access this infrastructure,” stated Amédé Kouakou, the Ivorian Minister of Equipment. Tolls range from 500 to 3,000 FCFA depending on the vehicle type.

Upon completion, the 4th bridge in Abidjan will connect the business districts of Adjamé and Plateau (central Abidjan) to Yopougon (west).

This major infrastructure project, under construction since August 2018, is a component of the Abidjan Urban Transport Project (PTUA), which includes the construction of 6 interchanges and 88 km of highways, as well as the renovation of 89 intersections.

In addition to improving traffic flow, the bridge will significantly reduce travel time for commuters who, due to rush hour congestion, are forced to use the northern highway or the lagoon transport provided by ferries.
