ACCIONA Energía Launches Red-Tailed Hawk, Its Largest Solar Plant in Texas

ACCIONA Energía has commenced operations at the Red-Tailed Hawk photovoltaic plant, situated near Houston in Wharton County, Texas.

Boasting a capacity of 458 MWp, it stands as the largest solar complex constructed by the company to date.

The addition of Red-Tailed Hawk to ACCIONA Energía’s renewable energy project portfolio in North America, where it currently boasts 2.7 GW installed, further solidifies its role as a significant contributor to the country’s energy transition. Additionally, the company is actively involved in the construction of a 280 MW wind farm in Forty Mile County, Alberta (Canada), and Union Solar, a 325 MWp photovoltaic plant in Ohio (the US).

Equipped with solar panels mounted on solar trackers that track the sun’s trajectory, the new facility optimizes sunlight exposure and energy production. The project is projected to produce 742 GWh of clean electricity annually, equivalent to the consumption of approximately 66,500 Texas households, while mitigating the emission of around 430,000 tons of carbon dioxide per year.

Furthermore, the project is part of ACCIONA Energía’s Social Impact Management program, which allocates a portion of its annual revenue to support local community initiatives in education, wellness, and environmental conservation.

In addition to its contribution to decarbonization efforts, Red-Tailed Hawk has facilitated employment opportunities, generating approximately 400 jobs during the peak construction phase and sustaining up to 15 permanent positions.
