Addressing Climate Challenges: Innovations in Agricultural Research

The Minister of Agriculture, Maritime Fisheries, Rural Development, and Water and Forests, Mohammed Sadiki, chaired a conference on agricultural research themed “Agricultural Research Facing the Challenges of Climate Change” in Meknes on April 23, 2024.

The event, held alongside the International Agriculture Show in Morocco (Siam), served as a crucial platform for the agricultural sector. It fostered networking and exchange among researchers, farmers, agricultural businesses, interprofessions, and policymakers.

The conference aimed to discuss sectoral issues, identify development pathways, propose solutions, advance agricultural research, disseminate knowledge, promote innovation, and enhance productivity and sustainability.

Sadiki emphasized the pivotal role of agricultural research and innovation in transforming food systems to be more resilient, sustainable, and of higher quality, spanning the entire value chain from primary production to final consumption. He urged intensified efforts to support agricultural research in adapting to climate change challenges, enhance regional cooperation, and promote innovation to ensure prosperous agriculture despite climate turbulence, thereby ensuring food security and community well-being for present and future generations.

The conference addressed various topics, including agricultural research systems, strategic research orientations, and governance and resource management. It provided a platform to share insights and advance research programs, leveraging successful models of advanced agriculture to address climate change and food security challenges
