French company Alstom has recently commissioned new signaling installations designed to modernize the Beni Suef-Asyut railway line on the east bank of the Nile in Egypt.
This project is part of a broader plan to upgrade the railway network, which Egypt has been implementing since 2014, with the aim of improving safety and efficiency.
250 km Railway Network Upgrade
The contract awarded to Alstom in January 2015, financed by the World Bank, covers a 250 km railway network connecting 15 stations. The work includes the design, installation, testing, and commissioning of equipment, all aimed at enhancing the signaling system on this crucial railway line.
Increased Speed and Capacity
With the implementation of Alstom’s advanced signaling technology, trains on the Beni Suef-Asyut line will be able to operate at speeds of up to 160 km/h. This increase in speed, combined with improved signaling, will significantly boost the network’s capacity, allowing it to transport up to 60,000 passengers daily while providing uninterrupted service 24 hours a day.
Boosting Egypt’s Railway Infrastructure
The successful activation of the new signaling system marks a significant step forward in modernizing Egypt’s railway infrastructure. This upgrade not only enhances safety and efficiency but also contributes to the overall development of the country’s transportation network, benefiting both passengers and the economy.
