Aspark SP600 Shatters Electric Hypercar Speed Record

In a remarkable feat of engineering and collaboration, the Aspark SP600 hypercar, driven by professional driver Marc Basseng, has secured the title of the world’s fastest electric hypercar.

With a top speed of 438.7 km/h (272.6 mph) achieved at the Automotive Testing Papenburg track, this achievement marks a new era in electric vehicle performance.

This extraordinary accomplishment was made possible through a dedicated project led by Manifattura Automobili Torino (M.A.T.) and the technical expertise of Bridgestone.

Aspark CEO Masanori Yoshida’s vision, combined with the synergy of industry-leading companies and a passionate team of professionals, propelled the SP600 to break barriers and redefine electric hypercar capabilities.

Aspark, known for its groundbreaking work on the Aspark Owl, the world’s fastest accelerating electric hypercar, once again partnered with M.A.T. for this ambitious project.

The goal was clear: to create a hypercar that could shatter the existing world top speed record for electric vehicles.

To achieve this record-breaking speed, M.A.T. sought a tire partner capable of meeting the unique demands of the SP600’s weight and driving dynamics at speeds exceeding 420 km/h.

Bridgestone responded with bespoke Potenza Race tires, a custom-engineered solution based on their flagship ultra-high-performance technology.

The SP600 underwent rigorous virtual and physical testing at M.A.T.’s headquarters in Turin, Italy.

This included extensive wind tunnel validation and multiple track testing sessions. M.A.T., acting as Aspark’s development and engineering partner, oversaw the entire vehicle development process, including powertrain integration, suspension design, software calibration, and the design and production of a bespoke battery system.

On June 8th, during the second attempt of the day, Marc Basseng expertly piloted the SP600 to its record-breaking top speed of 438.7 km/h, verified by the Racelogic V-Box, a high-precision GPS-based measurement device.

Leading up to this triumph, the car consistently surpassed the 420 km/h mark, reaching 420.8 km/h and 430 km/h in earlier runs.

The momentous occasion was celebrated with the presence of top executives from Aspark, M.A.T., and Bridgestone, along with numerous marketing and premium partners, including Supercar Owner Circle, who supported the endeavor from its inception.

The leaders of the three companies expressed their elation and pride in the achievement. Masanori Yoshida, Aspark CEO, reflected on the decade-long journey since the Owl’s inception, highlighting the company’s commitment to pushing boundaries and achieving technical excellence.

Steven De Bock, Bridgestone VP EMEA Sales and Original Equipment, acknowledged the collaborative effort and technical capabilities that led to this remarkable result.

Paolo Garella, M.A.T. CEO and Founder, celebrated the milestone as a testament to M.A.T.’s growth and the expertise of the Italian automotive industry. He expressed his gratitude to Aspark and Bridgestone for their vision, support, and technological contributions.
