Beira Corridor Trade Agreement Approved in Zambia, Transforming Southern and Eastern Africa’s Connectivity

In addition to boosting mineral exports, the Beira Corridor, a strategic trade route in Africa, will eliminate logistical bottlenecks for both international and intra-African trade.

Zambian President Hakainde Hichilema recently approved the Beira Development Corridor Agreement (BDCA), and the Ministry of Transport will now submit it to Parliament for ratification.

This ambitious regional project aims to provide more direct access routes for several landlocked countries in Southern and Eastern Africa. It will primarily interconnect the DRC, Zambia, Zimbabwe, and Malawi to the Mozambican port of Beira through road and rail networks.

The African Development Bank (AfDB), a major financier of the project, believes that modernizing the corridor will open up increased trade opportunities with countries in COMESA, SADC, and the Indian Ocean rim.
