Joe Biden’s campaign team vehemently denounced reports on Thursday that his rival, Donald Trump, had pledged to reverse several environmentally friendly policies for oil company executives if elected in November.
The Washington Post revealed this commitment from the American right-wing presidential candidate to oil industry leaders.
According to the newspaper, which cites anonymous sources, the Republican magnate also suggested raising no less than one billion dollars to finance his campaign during the same meeting. This gathering took place in April at his Florida residence, Mar-a-Lago, the paper specified.
In response, Democrat Joe Biden’s campaign team accused the former president of “selling working families” in exchange for “donations to his campaign from oil barons.”
When contacted by AFP, Donald Trump’s team neither confirmed nor denied the article’s content. Trump’s team calls it “the most radical energy program in history”
“Joe Biden is controlled by environmental extremists who are trying to implement the most radical energy program in history and force Americans to buy electric vehicles they cannot afford,” a spokeswoman said.
Trump pledges to end Biden’s LNG export permit freeze.
Mr. Trump reportedly pledged, according to the Washington Post, to immediately end the freeze by the Biden administration on permits for new liquefied natural gas (LNG) exports.
He also allegedly assured that he would launch tenders for more oil drilling concessions in the Gulf of Mexico and lift restrictions on drilling in the Alaskan Arctic.
The New York Times also reported on the Mar-a-Lago meeting and Mr. Trump’s call for executives to donate one billion dollars to his campaign.

“Donald Trump is acting like a cartoon villain, proposing to liquidate the planet’s future for a billion-dollar check,” responded the environmental protection association Evergreen Action in a statement.
Joe Biden’s campaign team accused Donald Trump of acting as a “puppet for his biggest donors.”
“Trump is not fighting for what is best for American families, for cheaper energy, or for our climate – he only cares about winning this election,” they denounced. “His campaign is struggling with donors and is desperate,” they added.
