The Electric Corporation of Ecuador (CELEC), through its Hydropower Business Unit, has successfully finished preventative maintenance on Unit 1 of the Baba hydroelectric plant, which has a capacity of 42 MW.
Maintenance Timeline and Scope
The maintenance work was conducted from July 1st to 9th, concluding three days ahead of the planned schedule.
During this period, technicians addressed welding points identified on the impeller of Unit 1, performed dimensional control, and conducted various tests and trials to ensure optimal operating conditions for the generator and associated equipment.
Teamwork and Expertise
A team of six CELEC technicians, specializing in electrical and mechanical fields within the Hydropower Business Unit, collaboratively completed the maintenance tasks within seven days.
Importance of Preventative Maintenance
Eng. Miguel Rodríguez, the plant’s manager, emphasized the significance of preventative maintenance in extending the lifespan of equipment and its components. He noted that this approach allows for early detection and correction of potential issues, ensuring the continued availability of the facility to guarantee a reliable electricity supply for the country.
