CNOOC Starts Oil Production at Enping 21-4 Offshore Field in South China Sea

CNOOC Limited has announced the successful commencement of oil production at the Enping 21-4 offshore oil field development project.

This significant milestone marks a new phase in the company’s exploration and production activities in the region.

Situated in the eastern South China Sea, the Enping 21-4 project boasts an average water depth of approximately 89 meters. To optimize efficiency and minimize environmental impact, the development will leverage existing production facilities.

The project is anticipated to reach a peak production rate of roughly 5,300 barrels of oil equivalent per day (boed) by 2025. The extracted crude oil is classified as light crude, known for its desirable properties.

CNOOC remains committed to enhancing project efficiency through the integration of technological advancements and effective management practices. This dedication to innovation is evident in the Enping 21-4 development.

The Enping 21-4 oil field was developed by drilling two additional extended reach wells from the existing production platform. This innovative approach optimizes resource utilization and minimizes the need for new infrastructure.

The well depth at Enping 21-4 extends beyond 9,500 meters, highlighting the technological capabilities employed in this offshore project. This substantial depth underscores the complexity and challenges involved in extracting oil from such reservoirs.

CNOOC holds a 100% interest in the Enping 21-4 project and assumes the role of operator. This demonstrates the company’s confidence in the project’s potential and its commitment to managing its operations effectively.
