Colbún Acquires Two Wind Farms in Chile, Expanding Renewable Energy Portfolio

Colbún S.A., a key player in the Chilean energy sector, has completed the acquisition of the San Juan and Totoral wind farms.

Situated in the Atacama and Coquimbo regions respectively, these farms boast an installed capacity of 193 MW for San Juan and 46 MW for Totoral.

The transaction encompasses the acquisition of 100% of the shares of Inversiones Latin America Power SpA (ILAP), the holding company of the wind farms’ owners. The deal amounts to USD 401 million, with potential adjustments as per standard contractual provisions.

This acquisition solidifies Colbún’s presence in northern Chile, a region of strategic importance for its operations.

In addition to the San Juan and Totoral wind farms, Colbún already operates the Diego de Almagro Sur photovoltaic and battery park (230 MW) and is in the process of constructing the Horizonte wind farm (816 MW).

This concentration of assets enables Colbún to effectively address the energy demands of its industrial and mining customers in the region. Chile has a history of establishing partnerships in the wind energy sector, notably with Spain.

Colbún’s acquisition of the San Juan and Totoral wind farms significantly increases its installed capacity in renewable energy, thereby diversifying its energy portfolio.

This diversification is crucial for ensuring the stability of the energy supply and meeting the growing demands of industrial clients for cost-effective and sustainable energy solutions.

The finalization of this transaction is subject to approval from the Fiscalía Nacional Económica (FNE), in accordance with Chilean regulations.

This acquisition aligns with Colbún’s series of strategic initiatives aimed at bolstering its position in the national energy market. By expanding its renewable energy production capacity, Colbún is proactively preparing to meet future challenges in the energy sector while maintaining its competitive edge.
