National Grid Renewables Powers Up Texas with Copperhead Solar and Storage Project

National Grid Renewables is expanding its clean energy footprint in Texas with the launch of the Copperhead Solar and Storage Project (Copperhead) in Falls County.

This 150-megawatt (MW) solar and 100-megawatt hour (MWh) storage project marks a significant milestone in the company’s commitment to providing sustainable energy solutions to the Lone Star State.

Located in the Electric Reliability Council of Texas (ERCOT) market, Copperhead is expected to deliver a substantial economic impact. Over the next 25 years, it will contribute an estimated $25 million to the local economy, including $12 million in new tax revenue.

A unique feature of this project is the Copperhead Community Fund. National Grid Renewables has pledged $600,000 to support three volunteer fire departments and a youth athletic organization in Falls County, Texas. This demonstrates the company’s dedication to giving back to the communities where it operates.

Blake Nixon, President of National Grid Renewables: “We are proud to continue expanding our renewable energy portfolio in Texas. Copperhead represents our ongoing commitment to fostering economic growth and building strong partnerships with the local communities.”

Jay T. Elliott, Falls County Judge: “Falls County is immensely grateful for National Grid Renewables’ support. The Copperhead Charitable Fund is an invaluable resource that will enable us to enhance essential services and programs for our residents.”

Copperhead isn’t just an economic boon; it’s also a win for the environment. The project is estimated to offset 250,000 metric tons of carbon dioxide emissions annually, equivalent to taking 55,000 cars off the road. This substantial reduction in greenhouse gas emissions will play a crucial role in combating climate change.
