Pretoria-based importer and distributor of battery electric vehicles (BEVs), Enviro Automotive, has introduced the Dayun Yuehu S5 mini sports utility vehicle (SUV) to the South African market.
Targeting Urban and Eco-Conscious Drivers
With a price tag under R400,000, the 3.6-meter S5 is aimed at urban dwellers and environmentally conscious individuals who are seeking an affordable electric vehicle option.
Dayun: A Chinese EV Manufacturer
Dayun, a Chinese company with origins in motorcycle and commercial vehicle manufacturing, has expanded its focus to electric cars.
The Dayun Yuehu S5, launched in 2017, has since been marketed under various names in over 20 countries across North and South America, Europe, Asia, the Middle East, and Africa, with over 35,000 units sold.

Two Models: Standard and VIP
The South African Dayun Yuehu S5 SUV lineup includes two five-door models: the Standard and VIP. Both variants feature a front-mounted 35 kW synchronous permanent magnet AC electric motor, delivering 105 Nm of peak torque and a top speed of 100 km/h.
Battery and Charging Capabilities
Equipped with a 31.7 kWh ternary lithium-ion battery, the S5 boasts a range of 330 km. It supports both Level 2 AC and DC charging, allowing for convenient home charging or rapid recharges at DC fast-charging stations.
The vehicle consumes 10.7 kWh per 100 km, and with a standard 220 V charge, it takes approximately four hours to recharge. Utilizing a DC fast charger, recharging from 20% to 80% can be achieved in under an hour.
Standard and VIP Features
The Dayun Yuehu S5 comes standard with driver and passenger airbags, antilock braking system (ABS), electronic brake-force distribution (EBD), brake assist, traction control, hill-start assist, slope-descent control, automatic cruise control, electronic power steering, air conditioning with climate control, electrically adjustable front seats, and electric windows.
Additional features include automatic headlights, a rearview camera with reverse assistance, a tire pressure monitoring system, keyless start, central locking, a seven-inch infotainment screen, and an eight-inch central control screen.
The S5 VIP model further enhances the offering with four ultrasonic radars in the front and rear, LED daytime running lights, turn-assist lights, and front fog lamps.
It also introduces a SmartLink APP, enabling remote control of car locking/unlocking, windows, and air conditioning, along with a keyless entry feature. The app also includes an electronic fence function that alerts the owner if the vehicle leaves a designated area.

Wolvaardt emphasizes the S5’s suitability for daily city driving, stating, “The Dayun Yuehu S5 is perfect for daily urban commutes, navigating congested city streets, and fitting into tight parking spots.”
Pricing and Warranty
The Dayun Yuehu S5 starts at R399,999 and comes with a three-year/60,000 km warranty and service plan, including roadside assistance. The battery is covered by a five-year/120,000 km warranty, and service intervals are scheduled every 12 months or 20,000 km.
