This latest delivery of buses to TRANSCO is part of the Congolese government’s reforms to strengthen the capacity and enhance the quality of public transportation services.
Bolstering the Fleet
TRANSCO, the public transportation company in the Democratic Republic of Congo, received a new batch of 16 buses on Monday.
These buses were assembled in Limete (a district of Kinshasa) by the private company Supreme Automobile.
This delivery brings the total number of buses received to 56, as part of a government project aimed at increasing the transporter’s fleet by 230 buses.
Monthly Deliveries Planned
According to the Ministry of Transport, around ten buses will now be delivered each month. Inaugurated in June 2023 by President Félix Tshisekedi, the assembly plant has a production capacity of approximately 25 buses per month, in models Mercedes Benz 1723 with 49 seats and Mercedes Benz 917 with 39 seats.
These vehicles are also sold to private transporters, with the goal of gradually renewing the national fleet of buses dedicated to public transportation.
Revitalizing Public Transport
This initiative aims to revitalize public transportation in the DRC by providing modern and reliable buses, improving the overall commuting experience for citizens.
The government’s commitment to investing in public transportation infrastructure demonstrates its dedication to improving the quality of life for its citizens.
Economic Impact
The local assembly of these buses also contributes to the local economy by creating jobs and supporting the automotive industry in the DRC.
