Eco Wave Power Named Finalist in 2024 EDF Pulse Awards for Wave Energy Innovation

Eco Wave Power Global AB, a prominent onshore wave energy company publicly traded, has earned a spot as a finalist in the 10th edition of the 2024 EDF Pulse Awards.

This nomination places them in the running for the category focusing on creating a profitable decentralized energy system.

Eco Wave Power has pioneered a unique, patented, and cost-effective technology that generates clean electricity from ocean and sea waves.

This innovation has led them to be one of the 13 finalists out of 144 submissions this year, recognized for their ability to meet the increasing demand for energy self-sufficiency at various scales.

The finalists will present their projects to the EDF Executive Committee on 17 July 2024, with the winners being announced the following day, 18 July 2024.

Since its inception in 2014, the EDF Pulse awards have reviewed over 2,450 applications, providing direct support to more than 96 start-ups and crowning 35 winners in total.

The Pulse award winners receive customized support in further research, proof of concept, professional development, and various other forms of assistance.

The EDF Pulse awards, organized by EDF (Électricité de France), a global electric utility and the largest renewable energy producer in Europe, reflect EDF’s dedication to advancing innovations in the energy sector with the aim of achieving a carbon-neutral future.

This accolade coincides with the fruitful collaboration between Eco Wave Power and EDF Renewables IL, a subsidiary of EDF. Together, they own and operate a wave energy pilot project in Israel, known as the EWP-EDF One Project.

The EWP-EDF One Project is co-funded by EDF Renewable IL, which holds a 50% stake, and the Israeli Ministry of Energy, which has recognized Eco Wave Power’s technology as pioneering.

The project boasts an installed capacity of 100 kW and includes 10 floaters.

In August 2023, the power station was officially connected to Israel’s national electrical grid. This milestone marks the first time in Israel’s history that electricity generated from wave power is being fed into the national grid.

Following this achievement, the EWP-EDF One project has moved into the full system calibration phase, with a ceremonial ‘plugging in’ event planned for November 2024 to celebrate this historic moment.

“We are proud to see our vision of sustainable wave energy becoming a reality,” said Eco Wave Power Founder and CEO, Inna Braverman. “I am grateful to the EDF Renewables IL team, the Israeli Energy Ministry, the Atarim Group, and my entire team at Eco Wave Power, who worked tirelessly to bring this project from concept to a new source of clean energy.”

“We believe this is just the beginning for wave energy, and we are excited for this station to serve as a catalyst for many more projects worldwide. We are also very proud to be chosen by EDF as a finalist for the 2024 Pulse Award. This recognition signifies an incredible breakthrough and acknowledgment of Eco Wave Power’s achievements in the wave energy sector,” Braverman added.
