Computers Stolen from EDF Nuclear Subcontractor

EDF, the French energy giant, confirmed on Tuesday that computers were stolen over the weekend from one of its subcontractors in Marseille, specializing in nuclear work.

This confirmation follows reports from France 3 and Le Figaro.

An EDF spokesperson assured that after “investigations,” they could confirm that “there was no sensitive data on the stolen computers.”

However, a source close to the matter contradicted this statement to AFP, claiming that the computers did contain “sensitive data,” without specifying the nature of the information.

The theft occurred over the weekend, without forced entry, at the premises of Endel, a subcontractor responsible for maintaining parts used in nuclear power plants, located in the 8th arrondissement of Marseille. The theft was only discovered on Monday morning.

Approximately fifteen computers containing data shared with EDF were missing. An investigation into “theft from a warehouse of goods, valuables, or merchandise” has been opened.

Another source close to the investigation in Marseille confirmed the theft but declined to provide further details.

Formerly a subsidiary of Engie specializing in industrial maintenance, Endel was acquired in 2022 by Altrad, a group specializing in industrial services and building materials.
