Exergy International, a global provider of clean energy solutions and a frontrunner in next-generation geothermal ORC power plants, has established a collaborative agreement with RentCo Africa Ltd., an independent Kenyan energy leasing company.
This partnership centers on the development of RentCo’s Wellhead geothermal project in Olkaria, Kenya.
Expanding Geothermal Capacity
The project aims to bolster the Olkaria geothermal fields by an additional 67 MWe of capacity, utilizing both Flash and ORC power plant technology to harness the geothermal resource.
In this collaborative endeavor, Exergy will serve as the exclusive provider of eight organic Rankine cycle systems for the RentCo project, contributing a total capacity of approximately 30 MWe.
Expertise and Technology Convergence
Exergy, renowned as the fastest-growing supplier of geothermal ORC systems with a 500 MWe capacity portfolio, will equip RentCo with extensive technical know-how in geothermal binary power plant design and maintenance.
This expertise, coupled with Exergy’s highly efficient radial outflow turbine (ROT) technology, will empower RentCo to successfully expand its geothermal operations.
Commitment to Renewable Energy Development
Luca Pozzoni, General Manager of Exergy International, expressed his enthusiasm, stating, “We are excited to embark on this collaboration with RentCo, which we anticipate will yield fruitful results for the advancement of renewable energy in Kenya and other African regions.
Africa possesses significant renewable energy potential, and we are deeply committed to helping unlock this potential through our technology and expertise.
Our goal is to facilitate a seamless clean energy transition in Africa, enhancing electricity access for a growing number of people across the continent.”
Capitalizing on East African Opportunities
Erdogan Arpaci, General Manager of Exergy Turkey and responsible for African market development, remarked, “I am pleased to have reached this agreement with RentCo. It represents the culmination of our ongoing efforts and the valuable relationships that Exergy has cultivated in the East African market over the past few years. I am confident that numerous promising projects can be realized in this region through collaboration among financial investors, institutions, and technology providers.”
Kenya’s Geothermal Leadership
By the end of 2023, Kenya had secured a spot among the top ten countries globally for installed geothermal capacity, boasting 985 MWe. With ongoing projects underway, it is poised to surpass the 1 GWe milestone in 2024.
