GE Vernova Supplies Turbines for Montana Wind Project

GE Vernova Inc. is currently in the process of delivering 88 of its 2.8 MW-127 m wind turbines to Puget Sound Energy (PSE) for their Beaver Creek wind farm project in Stillwater County, Montana.

The initial shipments for this project, secured by GE Vernova in the fourth quarter of 2023, began in May 2024.

The Beaver Creek Wind Project is expected to have an initial capacity of 248 MW, which is enough to power the equivalent of approximately 83,000 homes annually. This significant capacity highlights the project’s contribution to clean energy generation and its potential impact on reducing carbon emissions.

During the construction phase, the project is anticipated to employ an estimated 150-200 skilled workers, with an ongoing need for 10-15 permanent on-site workers during operation. The project will connect to NorthWestern Energy’s system and utilize existing PSE transmission lines to deliver the generated wind energy back to PSE customers.

Stephen Swift, Chief Commercial Officer of GE Vernova Wind, expressed his satisfaction with the partnership, stating: “We are delighted to collaborate with Puget Sound Energy to provide turbines for their Beaver Creek wind project, harnessing Montana’s abundant wind resources to drive their clean energy transition.

Both GE Vernova and PSE recognize the importance of meeting the growing demand for clean energy while maintaining the highest standards of safety and reliability. Our GE 2.8 MW-127 m workhorse turbines are perfectly suited to help PSE and other customers achieve their ambitious renewable energy goals.”

Jim Hogan, Director of Major Projects at PSE, echoed this sentiment, saying: “PSE is thrilled to leverage our extensive experience in developing and operating large-scale wind projects, along with GE Vernova’s decades of expertise in the wind industry, for the successful delivery of the Beaver Creek wind project.

This partnership represents another stride towards one of the most ambitious clean energy transformations undertaken by any utility in the country.”

GE Vernova’s Onshore wind business boasts an impressive installed base of approximately 56,000 turbines, totaling nearly 120 GW of installed capacity worldwide. With a commitment to customer success spanning over two decades, their product portfolio offers next-generation technology, featuring high-powered turbines that enable large-scale clean energy generation and contribute to decarbonization efforts.

The 2.8 MW-127 m turbine, specifically designed for the U.S. market, is a cornerstone of this portfolio. With over 23 GW installed and 200 million operational hours, it is one of the most successful turbines in U.S. history, known for its ease of installation and high capacity factor.
