GE Vernova Launches First Saudi-Made H-Class Gas Turbine for Jafurah Plant

GE Vernova, in the presence of Saudi Arabia’s Minister of Energy, HRH Prince Abdulaziz bin Salman, proudly announced the successful completion of the first H-class gas turbine unit at its GE Saudi Advanced Turbines (GESAT) facility in Dammam.

The locally produced H-Class turbine is destined to power the Jafurah Cogeneration Independent Steam and Power Plant (ISPP), anticipated to be Saudi Arabia’s most efficient power plant upon completion.

This state-of-the-art turbine aligns with the Kingdom’s vision of harnessing the substantial natural gas resources in the Jafurah gas field, projected to yield significant amounts of natural gas liquids, condensates, and ethane by 2030.

The successful rollout of this domestically manufactured gas turbine at GESAT marks a significant achievement for Saudi Arabia’s energy sector. It contributes to the nation’s economic diversification and local skill development goals, in line with the objectives of Saudi Vision 2030.

The event also witnessed GE Vernova signing a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Saudi Export-Import Bank (EXIM) to facilitate the export of GE Vernova’s goods and services from Saudi Arabia. This further solidifies the company’s dedication to supporting the Kingdom’s energy needs and sustainability ambitions.

Hisham Al Bahkali, President of GE Vernova in Saudi Arabia, expressed pride in GESAT’s role in promoting industrial localization within the Kingdom’s energy sector.

GESAT, a joint venture with Dussur, has already exported over 200 accessory modules for power plants generating more than 11 GW and is now expanding its capabilities with the production of advanced gas turbines.

GE Vernova’s H-class gas turbines are renowned for their high efficiency and performance, making them a cost-effective solution for converting natural gas to electricity. They also offer the flexibility required to meet the dynamic power generation needs of the Middle East region.

Joseph Anis, President and CEO of GE Vernova’s Gas Power business in Europe, Middle East, and Africa, emphasized GE Vernova’s long-standing commitment to Saudi Arabia’s energy security, economic diversification, and talent development.

The H-class turbines’ efficiency and hydrogen readiness can significantly contribute to the country’s energy transition by providing grid stability as renewable energy sources are integrated.

The MoU signed with Saudi EXIM aims to further empower the Kingdom’s economic diversification and export capabilities. GESAT, designed to produce technology products for export, will benefit from Saudi EXIM Bank’s lending and insurance support to facilitate export projects.

Following its spin-off from GE, GE Vernova is now an independent company listed on the New York Stock Exchange. With a vast installed base of wind turbines and gas turbines, GE Vernova plays a crucial role in global electricity generation and is committed to leading the energy transition towards a more sustainable future.
