Heygaz Biomethane, a portfolio company of funds managed by InfraVia Capital Partners, has entered into an agreement to purchase Ormonde Organics, Ireland’s leading producer of biogas and biomethane.
Ormonde Organics’ management team will continue to lead the company.
Operational Assets and Expansion Plans
Ormonde Organics operates two anaerobic digestion plants in County Waterford and County Cork, with a combined annual production capacity of 60 GWh.
The company has also secured planning permission for a third facility expected to be operational by late 2025. Currently, most of the biogas produced is used for renewable electricity generation, with a small portion upgraded to biomethane for bio-CNG.
Ormonde Organics, in collaboration with Gas Network Ireland (GNI), is developing a facility to inject biomethane directly into Ireland’s national gas grid, opening up access to the EU market.
The company aims to increase biomethane production and promote its use in transport and industrial applications, contributing to decarbonization and enhancing energy security.
Strategic Entry into the Irish Market
Ireland presents a significant opportunity for biomethane industry development due to its abundant and sustainable agricultural feedstocks.
This aligns with the Irish government’s recent commitment to increase biomethane production from 75 GWh to 6 TWh by 2030.
Heygaz’s acquisition of Ormonde Organics positions the company as a leader in the Irish market, leveraging Ormonde’s technical and professional expertise to pursue further biomethane production projects in the country.
Heygaz intends to continue its strategy of building and consolidating a European network of biomethane production plants.
This will be achieved through both greenfield and brownfield development opportunities in selected high-growth potential markets.
Leadership Statements on the Acquisition
Heygaz Chairman, Fernando Sarasola, praised Ormonde Organics’ state-of-the-art assets and high operational standards.
He expressed enthusiasm for integrating the company into Heygaz’s platform and embarking on a new growth phase with the management team.
Sarasola emphasized the substantial growth opportunities in the Irish biomethane sector, which Heygaz is ready to seize alongside its new partners, Martin Morrissey and Michael Murphy, who will retain equity participation in the business.
Nicolas Ritter, Investment Director at InfraVia, highlighted Heygaz’s rapid expansion into five new high-growth potential countries in less than a year, with plans for further growth within this footprint and selective additions of new markets.
InfraVia is committed to supporting the management team’s ambition to create a scaled European biomethane producer with comprehensive capabilities.
Martin Morrissey, CEO of Ormonde Organics, expressed confidence that joining Heygaz will enable his company to reach its full potential and play a significant role in developing Ireland’s green economy.
