Iberdrola España has installed its first 2,000 electric vehicle (EV) charging points at Mercadona supermarkets and workplaces, establishing the largest semi-fast charging network in Spain.
These charging points, spread across 450 Mercadona locations throughout Spain’s autonomous communities, are the result of a collaboration agreement signed last year to promote sustainable mobility.
Through this partnership, Iberdrola España will manage the supply, commissioning, and operation of up to 3,500 charging points in 800 supermarkets across Spain and Portugal. This extensive infrastructure allows Mercadona customers to conveniently charge their EVs while shopping, offering up to 22 kW of power. This translates to a 100 km charge in just 45 minutes, providing enough range for most daily commutes.
Expanding Electric Mobility Across Spain
The strategic placement of these 2,000 charging points at Mercadona locations across Spain supports Iberdrola España’s commitment to expanding electric mobility throughout the country. This aligns with the company’s goal of achieving full decarbonization in the transportation sector.
All charging points utilize 100% green energy from renewable sources, backed by a guarantee of origin certificate. Drivers can easily locate and access these chargers through Iberdrola España’s public charging app, the highest-rated in the industry. The app provides verified information, real-time availability, and convenient booking and payment options.
This initiative reinforces Iberdrola España’s commitment to a sustainable mobility plan and a transition towards an emission-free transportation system. With an ambitious plan to install 100,000 electric chargers by 2025.
