INEOS and NextEra Energy Break Ground on Massive Solar Project

INEOS Olefins & Polymers USA and NextEra Energy Resources, LLC have initiated construction on the INEOS Hickerson Solar project, a 310 MW solar power facility located in Bosque County, Texas.

This significant milestone follows the recent signing of a renewable power purchase agreement between the two companies.

NextEra Energy Resources, the world’s leading generator of renewable energy from wind and solar, and a pioneer in battery energy storage, will construct, own, and operate the INEOS Hickerson Solar project through a subsidiary.

The entire energy output will be dedicated to INEOS O&P USA, covering the net purchased electricity load for all 14 of its manufacturing, fractionation, and storage facilities in the US.

The INEOS Hickerson Solar project will generate 730,000 MWh of clean energy annually, equivalent to the electricity consumption of over 68,000 homes. This substantial generation capacity will significantly contribute to reducing greenhouse gas emissions by approximately 310,000 tons per year.

Mike Nagle, CEO of INEOS O&P USA, expressed the company’s dedication to leading the petrochemical industry in adopting renewable energy solutions.

He stated, “This solar project is a crucial step in our global efforts to reduce the carbon footprint of INEOS businesses.”

Peter Skantze, Vice President of infrastructure development for NextEra Energy Resources, praised INEOS for their pioneering efforts in decarbonizing the petrochemical industry and expressed their pleasure in collaborating with INEOS O&P USA to support their renewable energy goals.

The INEOS Hickerson Solar project is on track to commence commercial operations by December 2025.
