Iraq Initiates Bidding Process for Baghdad Metro Project

Companies from the UAE, China, Japan, Switzerland, and Spain are competing for Iraq’s Baghdad Metro project, estimated at $2.5 billion.

The National Investment Commission (NIC) announced in a statement released on Tuesday in the local press that bids for the project have been opened. These bids involve various firms and alliances of foreign companies.

NIC has identified several companies, including ARJ Holding based in Dubai, Hitachi from Japan, Siemens from Germany, as well as Chinese firms and a consortium of companies from Spain, the UAE, and Switzerland.

Officials stated on Monday that the project, Iraq’s inaugural metro, will be awarded once all bids are assessed by the consultant by the end of May.
