Jan De Nul Group has secured a preferred supplier agreement with Copenhagen Infrastructure Partners (CIP) for the installation of approximately 90 km of subsea high-voltage export cables.
These cables will transmit the wind energy generated at the Fengmiao I wind farm to the onshore grid. This is the eighth wind farm in Taiwan where Jan De Nul Group is contributing its expertise.
Globally, the maritime construction company has participated in the construction of over 60 offshore wind farms.
Fengmiao I and Project Scope
Fengmiao I has a capacity of 500 MW, capable of powering approximately half a million households, and is a component of the larger Fengmiao wind project.
Located about 35 km off the coast of Taichung, the entire project has a total capacity of 1800 MW. Jan De Nul Group will establish the connection between the offshore substation of Fengmiao I and the onshore grid using two AC high-voltage cables.
This will be achieved by deploying their specialized cable-laying vessel, the Willem de Vlamingh. The company is responsible for the transportation and installation of the cables, including protecting crossings with other cables. These cables measure 45 km and 44 km in length respectively and have a combined weight of over 8,000 tons.
Jan De Nul Group’s Commitment to Renewable Energy
Wouter Vermeersch, Manager Offshore Cables at Jan De Nul Group, expressed enthusiasm about the project, stating, “The Fengmiao wind farm brings us another step closer to a world powered by renewable energy.
Jan De Nul Group strongly believes in the energy transition and possesses the knowledge, skills, and equipment to make this transition a reality. The two new XL cable-laying vessels we recently ordered demonstrate our unwavering commitment to green electricity.”
This project further solidifies Jan De Nul Group’s dedication to advancing sustainable energy solutions and contributing to the global shift towards renewable energy sources.
