Jerun Gas Field Reaches Production Milestone Offshore Malaysia, PETRONAS Announces

PETRONAS has confirmed the commencement of natural gas production at the Jerun field, located within Block SK 408, approximately 160 kilometers offshore Malaysia.

Initially discovered in 2015 by SapuraOMV, following an extensive drilling campaign of nine exploration wells from 2014 to 2015, the Jerun natural gas field is now online.

With a production capacity of up to 550 million cubic feet of gas per day (MMcfgd), the project is well-positioned to address the growing global energy needs as industry leaders increasingly focus on natural gas.

Datuk Ir. Bacho Pilong, PETRONAS Senior Vice President of Malaysia Petroleum Management (MPM), expressed his congratulations to SapuraOMV and its partners on achieving this significant milestone.

He emphasized the project’s contribution to Malaysia’s energy security, stating, “Adding to the country’s energy portfolio, this project promises significant contributions towards sustaining Malaysia’s long term gas supply. The unwavering support and cooperation from the Sarawak Government and local authorities have been instrumental in the success of this project.”

Sapura OMV Upstream (Sarawak) Inc. (SapuraOMV), the operator of Block SK 408, holds a 40% participating interest in the Jerun field. The remaining 60% stake is equally divided between PETRONAS Carigali Sdn Bhd (PCSB) and Sarawak Shell Berhad (SSB).
