JinkoSolar Shatters World Record with 33.24% Efficient Perovskite Tandem Solar Cell

JinkoSolar, a global leader in photovoltaic (PV) and energy storage solutions (ESS), has achieved a major breakthrough in solar cell technology.

Their N-type TOPCon-based perovskite tandem solar cell now boasts an impressive 33.24% conversion efficiency, as verified by the Shanghai Institute of Microsystem and Information Technology. This surpasses JinkoSolar’s previous record of 32.33% for similar tandem cells and marks a remarkable achievement in breaking world records for photovoltaic efficiency and power output 26 times.

The record-breaking cell utilizes Jinko’s high-efficiency monocrystalline TOPCon solar cell as its foundation. Researchers achieved this efficiency leap through a combination of innovative materials and technologies, including:

  • Ultra-thin poly-Si passivated contact technology
  • Novel light-trapping technology
  • High-transmittance, high-mobility intermediate recombination layer
  • Efficient surface passivation with hybrid materials

These advancements demonstrate the compatibility of TOPCon technology, a mainstream solar cell approach, with next-generation perovskite/silicon tandem cell technology. This combination successfully breaks through the efficiency limitations of single-junction silicon solar cells.

JinkoSolar’s dedication to research and development (R&D) is evident in its significant annual investments in technological innovation. This commitment has resulted in a growing patent portfolio with over 3,800 global patent applications and more than 3,500 patents granted. By continuously pushing technological boundaries, JinkoSolar consistently delivers higher efficiency and cost-effective energy solutions to the global solar market.

Looking Towards a Greener Future

Dr. Jin Hao, JinkoSolar’s CTO, emphasized the significance of this breakthrough: “This milestone achievement highlights JinkoSolar’s unwavering determination to push the limits of solar technology and our strong capabilities in innovation. It also lays a solid technical foundation for the company’s future development. We believe that our continued focus on scientific research and technology will contribute to building a greener and more sustainable new energy landscape.”
