This call for applications specifically targets Sub-Saharan Africa. It is open to journalists and media professionals working in small news agencies with fewer than 50 employees. The program does not accept applications from freelance journalists.
Proficiency in English is required for participation. While no technical prerequisites are mandatory, having basic knowledge of AI and machine learning is considered an advantage.
Program Goals and Structure
The program aims to demonstrate to participants how AI can be utilized to improve their work. It combines a series of masterclasses led by experts working at the intersection of journalism and AI with opportunities for discussion among participants.
Additionally, participants will be guided in developing resources that can support their organization’s AI adoption journey during and after the program.
Program Timeline and Funding
The academy will commence in September and run for a duration of 8 weeks. It is free for all selected participants, thanks to the support of the Google News Initiative, which has been powering JournalismAI since 2019.
