KONČAR to Modernize Vidraru Hydropower Plant

KONČAR – Engineering Ltd, a key member of a consortium, has been awarded a substantial contract by Romanian company Elektromontaj S.A. to revitalize the Vidraru hydropower plant in Romania.

The scope of work encompasses comprehensive design, production, delivery, dismantling of existing equipment, installation of new state-of-the-art equipment, testing, and commissioning.

Secured through a competitive international tender, the contract’s value surpasses €188 million, with KONČAR’s contribution nearing €80 million.

The Vidraru hydropower plant, strategically located on the Argeș River, holds a pivotal role in Romania’s energy infrastructure. Initially constructed in 1961 and operational since 1966, this crucial facility is now poised for a significant revitalization effort.

This project aims to enhance the plant’s efficiency, prolong its operational lifespan, and fortify Romania’s overall energy capabilities.

The client for this undertaking is S.P.E.E.H. HIDROELECTRICA, headquartered in Bucharest. As the largest electricity producer in Romania, HIDROELECTRICA boasts a remarkable installed hydropower capacity of 6.3 GW, generating an annual net production of 15.6 TWh.
