Kyon Energy Strengthens Germany’s Renewable Energy Storage with New 40 MWh Battery Facility

Kyon Energy, a leading developer of large-scale battery storage systems, has received approval to construct a new 40 MWh battery storage facility in Großenwiehe, Schleswig-Holstein.

Strategically located near the Schobüll substation, the facility boasts a 20 MW storage capacity and is set to begin operations by late 2025.

Battery storage systems like the one in Großenwiehe play a pivotal role in storing excess energy generated from renewable sources and feeding it back into the grid when needed.

This project will actively participate in balancing and wholesale markets, enhancing supply security and grid flexibility. It represents a significant contribution to the success of the energy transition.

Germany is witnessing a surge in battery storage projects, with a similar project announced in Petershagen. Private players are driving the momentum in energy storage, with RWE recently announcing the launch of a new photovoltaic power plant with integrated storage.

Florian Antwerpen, Managing Director of Kyon Energy, emphasizes the importance of battery storage systems in the growing renewable energy mix.

These systems compensate for grid fluctuations within seconds, preventing overloads and ensuring a reliable and socially responsible electricity supply.

The mayor of Großenwiehe, Keno Jaspers, welcomes the implementation of this project in his community, which supports the energy transition and local energy self-sufficiency.

The integration of this storage system into the distribution network will enable efficient balancing of energy fluctuations and optimize the use of renewable energies.

Kyon Energy is sending a strong signal in favor of sustainable development and the future viability of energy supply in Germany.

The company continues to play a key role in the energy revolution with an ambitious project pipeline and solid expertise in the development and management of battery storage systems.

By developing multi-purpose strategies and optimizing storage systems, Kyon Energy is actively contributing to a sustainable and independent energy future.
