Lhyfe and Fives Partner to Decarbonize Industry with Green Hydrogen

Lhyfe and Fives are joining forces to provide a comprehensive solution for decarbonizing industrial processes through the use of green hydrogen, thereby accelerating the energy transition.

Lhyfe and Fives have announced the signing of a memorandum of understanding to deliver a fully decarbonized offering for industry, spanning from hydrogen production to combustion. This initiative enables the utilization of hydrogen in process industries without requiring major modifications to existing equipment.

In recent years, hydrogen combustion, which does not emit CO2, has emerged as one of the most promising solutions for reducing the carbon footprint of industrial processes. For instance, a secondary aluminum furnace, currently producing 120 tons per day using natural gas, could reduce its annual CO2 emissions by over 4,000 tons by switching to hydrogen.

Recognized experts in their respective fields, Lhyfe and Fives will focus their efforts primarily on the metals, glass, and cement industries, as well as certain industrial heating processes in Europe and North America.

The hydrogen produced by Lhyfe is generated through water electrolysis, a reliable and proven technology powered by renewable energy sources.

This method ensures stable and sustainable production of green hydrogen, capable of meeting the needs of heavy industries. Lhyfe has also launched an innovative platform aimed at simplifying exchanges between producers and consumers of green hydrogen across Europe.

Fives contributes its expertise in industrial combustion with a range of burners adapted for hydrogen use. This allows for rapid and efficient integration of this new energy source into existing processes.

The metals, glass, and cement industries are particularly targeted, where high-temperature requirements and emission reduction are critical.

Matthieu Guesné, founder and CEO of Lhyfe, states: “We are at a pivotal moment in the industrial sector, particularly in industrial combustion. After several years of development, hydrogen solutions are now mature and available in the regional market.

We are proud and delighted to sign this agreement with a company like Fives, which contributes to accelerating the energy transition in the glass, cement, and metals industries, thanks to turnkey solutions for their processes.”

Frédéric Thrum, Deputy CEO of Fives and President of the Energy Division, adds: “As a pioneer in decarbonization, Fives supports industrial companies in their energy transition, particularly their shift to hydrogen.

Our unique and innovative combustion systems are developed to reduce the environmental impact of our customers worldwide. We are proud to partner with Lhyfe to jointly address the urgency of climate change and make industrial processes more sustainable and efficient.”

This strategic partnership between Lhyfe and Fives represents a major step forward in the decarbonization of industry. By combining their respective expertise, these two leaders offer a complete and integrated solution that could transform industrial processes and significantly reduce CO2 emissions.
