L&T Unit Secures Major GCC Power Project Contracts

Larsen & Toubro (L&T), India’s premier engineering and construction company, has revealed that its key subsidiary, Power Transmission & Distribution (PT&D), has landed substantial new contracts valued between Rs25 billion and Rs50 billion ($299 million to $599 million).

These contracts, awarded in the Gulf region and India, focus on the establishment of substations and transmission lines, which are essential components of the extensive, interconnected electricity grid.

L&T emphasized that a more robust grid accelerates the transition to clean energy and ensures a reliable and resilient power supply.

This enhancement is crucial in meeting the growing demand within the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) region.

In its drive towards sustainable and efficient power distribution, Saudi Arabia is upgrading its 380kV network in the central region.

PT&D has been awarded contracts to construct a 380kV substation and segments of 380kV overhead lines.

These upgrades are part of the country’s broader initiative to reinforce its electrical infrastructure.

In the United Arab Emirates, PT&D has secured contracts for the construction of a 220kV substation and three 132kV substations.

These new additions will support utilities in addressing the rising electricity demand in Dubai and Abu Dhabi, ensuring the network can keep up with growing needs.

In India, PT&D has obtained contracts for two 765kV double-circuit transmission line packages.

These projects are linked to the evacuation of power from the Jaisalmer/Barmer Renewable Energy Zone in Rajasthan to substations in Madhya Pradesh, facilitating further interconnections within the national grid.

The new projects underscore L&T’s commitment to advancing power infrastructure and supporting clean energy transitions.

The company’s efforts in both the GCC and India highlight its pivotal role in enhancing the resilience and efficiency of global electricity networks.
