Raging Wildfire Near Los Angeles Consumes 12,000 Acres

A wildfire raging northwest of Los Angeles has scorched over 12,000 acres and triggered the evacuation of more than 1,000 people from a popular outdoor recreation area.

Approximately 400 firefighters, equipped with 70 firetrucks and two bulldozers, are actively combating the Post fire, which remains only 2% contained.

The fire, currently burning south of Gorman, California, is situated about 60 miles northwest of Los Angeles.

Originating on Saturday afternoon, the fire is advancing southeast towards Pyramid Lake.

As a precautionary measure, authorities have evacuated around 1,200 individuals from the Hungry Valley recreation area, known for its motorcycle and off-road vehicle trails.

Unfortunately, two structures have already succumbed to the flames.

Cal Fire reports that high temperatures, low humidity, and strong winds are significantly hindering efforts to contain the wildfire.

These adverse weather conditions are expected to persist through Sunday night, further complicating firefighting operations.

To mitigate the fire’s spread, water-dropping aircraft are actively engaged in aerial firefighting efforts. Simultaneously, firefighters on the ground are working tirelessly to establish perimeter fire lines, aiming to gain better control over the blaze.
