Mammoet Secures Exclusive Heavy Lift and Transport Contract at Steel River Quay

Mammoet has been appointed as the sole contractor for heavy lift and transport services at Steel River Quay, a vital part of the Teesworks industrial zone in Teesside.

Teesworks, a sprawling 2,600-acre site situated on the banks of the River Tees in Northeast England, plays a pivotal role in the Teesside Freeport, the largest freeport in the UK.

This strategic location positions Steel River Quay to significantly contribute to the UK’s rapidly expanding offshore wind energy market.

Mark Sadler, Managing Director at Mammoet, expressed enthusiasm about the partnership, stating, “This is an exciting partnership aimed at supporting growth in the Teesside area. It’s underpinned by shared goals: driving investment, creating long-term jobs, and delivering operational excellence. We look forward to achieving these objectives with Steel River Quay and their clients.”

The five-year contract encompasses the provision of specialist field personnel, mobile cranes, crawler cranes, and SPMT trailers.

Mammoet will also collaborate with the Teesworks Skills Academy to train and upskill the local workforce through its in-house training program, the Mammoet Academy.

Oliver Smith, Senior Commercial Manager at Mammoet, highlighted the value of Mammoet’s experience and capabilities. He expressed eagerness to work with the Steel River Quay team and contribute to low-carbon and offshore clean energy projects.

Steel River Quay’s strategic position will enable it to serve the burgeoning UK offshore wind energy market.

Mammoet’s extensive knowledge and global experience in the sector will allow the port to leverage expertise from successful projects like Hywind Tampen, the world’s largest floating offshore wind farm, and the Seagreen offshore wind farm’s 114 foundations.

Teesworks Chairman, Chris Musgrave, acknowledged Mammoet’s leadership in heavy lift and transport solutions.

He emphasized the benefits this agreement will bring to Steel River Quay, including access to Mammoet’s global network, experience, equipment, and the support of their management and safety teams.

The partnership is expected to propel Steel River Quay toward becoming a world-class offshore wind marshalling facility.

Mammoet is set to provide early contractor engagement, advisory support, and engineering guidance at the initial stages of each project to ensure safe and successful completion of its contracts.
