Maserati GranCabrio Folgore: World’s First Electric Convertible

For those seeking an electric convertible that’s not a retrofitted classic, the Maserati GranCabrio Folgore is the sole option.

This stunning new offering from the iconic Italian automaker caters to both convertible and electric car enthusiasts.

The Maserati GranCabrio Folgore boasts 750 horsepower and 995 pound-feet of torque, providing exhilarating acceleration and a top speed of 180 mph.

As the world’s only 4-seat, droptop, battery-powered coupe, it offers unparalleled performance for a price of $205,000.

While the price may seem steep, it’s a relative bargain compared to other electric luxury vehicles like the all-electric Ferrari, which costs over half a million dollars.

The GranCabrio Folgore also outshines competitors like the Bentley Continental GT and Aston Martin DB12 in terms of agility, handling, passenger space, and technology.

Named “Folgore,” meaning “lightning” in Italian, this handsome car pays homage to Italy’s rich tradition of automotive design. It delivers a joyful driving experience on any road, combining fluidity and relaxation with a readiness to spring into action.

The Folgore features three 300-kilowatt electric motors – one at the front and two at the rear. In GT mode, power is prioritized to the front wheels for efficiency, while Sport and Corsa modes engage all three motors for maximum acceleration.

The 800-volt architecture allows for rapid DC charging at up to 270 kilowatts, and a complimentary Level 2 wall box enables convenient home charging.

The GranCabrio’s 92.5 kWh battery pack, composed of pouch cells from LG Chem, is uniquely designed in a T-shape, contributing to a lower center of gravity and improved handling.

This design, along with excellent suspension tuning and balance, makes the Maserati remarkably agile and responsive.

Weighing just over 5,200 pounds, the GranCabrio is lighter than the gasoline-powered Bentley Continental GT Speed convertible.

Its powerful electric powertrain propels it to 124 mph (200 km/h) in a mere 9.1 seconds, outperforming the Porsche Taycan Turbo S coupe and the Bentley GT Speed convertible. The steering is praised for its excellent feel and responsiveness, while the regenerative brakes offer a range of settings for personalized control.

While the interior materials and controls could be more refined, the driving experience is exceptional. The GranCabrio’s grip is monumental, thanks to its summer Pirelli P Zero tires.

The audio system delivers a well-tuned sound, and the regenerative brakes offer a range of settings for personalized control. Although the price is high, the Folgore’s performance and technological advancements make it a compelling alternative to other luxury electric vehicles like the Porsche Taycan Turbo S.
