McDermott, a global leader in engineering and construction services, has been awarded a significant engineering, procurement, construction, installation (EPCI), hook-up, and commissioning contract by Shell Trinidad and Tobago Limited.
This contract pertains to the development of the Manatee gas field, which is situated approximately 60 miles (100 kilometers) offshore from Trinidad and Tobago.
Project Background and Initial Phases
This contract follows McDermott’s successful completion of the front-end engineering design (FEED), detailed engineering, and long-lead procurement service contracts for the initial design and execution planning of the Manatee project.
These early phases laid the groundwork for the full-scale development of the gas field, ensuring a smooth transition into the EPCI phase.
Scope of Work
Under the terms of the contract, McDermott will undertake the design, procurement, fabrication, and commissioning of both a platform and its supporting jacket structure.
Additionally, the company will manage the design, installation, and commissioning of a 32-inch gas pipeline that will connect the platform to Shell’s gas processing facility.
The project scope also includes the design, procurement, installation, and testing of a fiber optic cable, which is essential for communication and operational efficiency.
Strategic Importance and Company Perspective
“This contract capitalizes on our distinctive integrated EPCI capabilities and our legacy of engineering excellence and innovation, enabling us to deliver large offshore platforms and complex subsea infrastructure worldwide,” said Mahesh Swaminathan, Senior Vice President of Subsea and Floating Facilities at McDermott.
He further emphasized that the Manatee project builds on McDermott’s proven track record of successful project execution for Shell, reinforcing the company’s commitment to developing the necessary energy infrastructure to meet global energy demands.
Conclusion
The Manatee gas field project is a testament to McDermott’s expertise in managing large-scale offshore developments. Through this contract, McDermott will continue to play a pivotal role in advancing energy infrastructure in the region, further solidifying its position as a leader in the EPCI sector.
