NHOA Energy is currently developing a 50 MWh battery energy storage system (BESS) in Sicily, southern Italy. The project, awarded by ERG, includes a five-year operation and maintenance contract.
This turnkey solution will be implemented to support ERG’s existing Vicari wind farm in the province of Palermo.
Enhancing Renewable Energy Efficiency
The collaboration between the wind farm and the BESS aims to increase the efficiency of renewable energy generation while ensuring a more stable and dependable power supply, showcasing the Group’s innovative approach to managing renewable energy.
Cutting-Edge Technology for Grid Compliance
The battery storage project will utilize NHOA Energy’s state-of-the-art technology to comply with the Italian Transmission System Operator’s (Terna) grid regulations for storage systems.
This project further solidifies NHOA Energy’s commitment to providing top-tier energy solutions in Italy, building on their successful delivery of 70 MW for Terna’s Fast Reserve program and a recent 39 MWh project under the Capacity Market mechanism in central Italy.
The project reinforces NHOA Energy’s dedication to empowering Italy’s energy landscape with innovative and reliable power solutions.
Partnering with a Renewable Energy Leader
ERG, a leading independent producer of electricity from renewable sources, is a dominant player in Italy’s onshore wind sector and a major contributor in the solar sector. In recent years, ERG has undergone a significant transformation, shifting its business model from oil to green energy.
Today, ERG is a fully dedicated renewable operator with a presence in nine European countries and the USA, boasting a wind and solar portfolio of approximately 3.7 GW of installed capacity.
NHOA Energy’s storage solutions and advanced technologies seamlessly complement ERG’s renewable energy production, fostering potential future synergies for more efficient, reliable, and sustainable energy systems.
A Significant Stride Toward Sustainable Energy
Fabrizio Ciaccia, Vice President EMEA of NHOA Energy, commented, “This project represents a major step forward in sustainable energy, highlighting our dedication to integrating renewable power sources in Italy.
The combination of ERG’s leadership in renewable energy and our cutting-edge storage solutions will not only enhance the existing grid but also establish a benchmark for future sustainable projects.
At NHOA Energy, we are motivated by a vision of a cleaner, renewable-powered future, and this project with ERG is a crucial move towards achieving that vision. Together, we’re not simply creating energy solutions; we’re inspiring a global shift towards a more sustainable and resilient energy landscape.”
