The Nordex Group is enhancing its product lineup in the 5 MW segment by introducing a new turbine variant of the reliable Delta4000 platform, specifically designed to meet the needs of the US market.
Turbine Specifications
The N169/5.X features a rotor diameter of 169 meters and a power rating of up to 5.5 megawatts. Consistent with Nordex turbines, a variety of US-optimized towers will be available.
The N169/5.X is ideal for wind regions in the USA that experience low to medium wind speeds and lack intense turbulence.
Strategic Expansion in North America
“Expanding our operations in North America is a vital part of our strategy. The N169/5.X is among the largest and most efficient turbines for the US market, developed to support our growth objectives in this region,” stated José Luis Blanco, CEO of the Nordex Group.
“We have once again followed our successful approach of an evolutionary product strategy by utilizing proven components from our 5 MW class to create a turbine variant that significantly boosts yield, particularly in projects with limited grid capacity, through an optimized capacity factor.”
Meeting Market Growth
“With this new turbine tailored for the US market, we are well-positioned to capitalize on the anticipated growth. We already offer our N163 and N175 variants for land-constrained and some grid-constrained sites in multiple configurations. The N169/5.X will enable us to address additional customer needs in grid-constrained sites,” added Manav Sharma, CEO of Nordex Group’s North America division.
Local Supply Chain and Production
The existing Nordex local supply chain ensures compliance with local content requirements, benefiting from the Inflation Reduction Act (IRA).
Key components such as nacelles, drive trains, and hubs will be manufactured in the US. The Nordex Group will produce the N169/5.X along with the N163 turbine for the US market at its facility in West Branch, Iowa. Production of the N169/5.X is slated to commence in 2026.
Future Prospects
This strategic expansion into the US market with the N169/5.X aims to cater to the evolving needs of the renewable energy sector, ensuring sustainable growth and technological advancement.
Nordex continues to innovate and adapt its product offerings to meet regional requirements, reinforcing its commitment to providing high-efficiency wind turbines globally.
Enhancing Renewable Energy
By leveraging advanced technology and local manufacturing capabilities, Nordex is set to make significant contributions to the renewable energy landscape in the USA.
