The Nordex Group achieved a significant milestone on July 12th by installing the world’s first N175/6.X turbine at the Bürgerwindpark Janneby (community wind farm) in Schleswig-Holstein, Germany.
Boasting a rotor swept area of 24,053 m² and a nominal capacity of up to 6.8 MW, the N175/6.X stands as the most powerful Nordex turbine specifically engineered for medium and light wind locations.
Unique Design for Enhanced Performance
A standout feature of the N175/6.X turbine is its single-piece rotor blade, measuring approximately 86 meters in length.
This unique design, combined with the expansive 175-meter rotor diameter, contributes significantly to its high performance, particularly in low wind conditions.
Milestone Achievement and Commitment to Innovation
“The installation of the first N175/6.X marks a pivotal moment for Nordex,” said José Luis Blanco, CEO of the Nordex Group. “Our teams collaborated diligently to ensure the timely development and installation of this pilot turbine.
The N175/6.X represents another variant of our globally proven Delta4000 platform, utilizing validated components. Thanks to the turbine’s large rotor, we will be setting new standards onshore in Germany and Europe in terms of additional electricity yield, particularly during periods of low wind speeds.”
Rigorous Testing and Validation in Real-World Conditions
In the coming months, the N175/6.X will undergo comprehensive testing at the Janneby site.
Nordex has a history of successful prototype installations at this location, leveraging the favorable wind conditions for accurate power and sound measurements, as well as validation of mechanical loads required for IEC type certification.
Tubular Steel Tower and Future Installations
The Nordex Group has installed the N175/6.X in Schleswig-Holstein on a tubular steel tower with a hub height of 112 meters. A second N175/6.X is slated for installation in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania in late autumn 2024.
Notably, this second turbine will be mounted on a hybrid tower developed by Nordex, boasting a hub height of 179 meters—the tallest tower in the Nordex portfolio to date.
