Odisha Approves Rs. 903 Crore Investment in Wind & Solar Energy Projects

The Single Window Committee (SWC) of the Energy Department in Odisha has approved substantial investment proposals totaling Rs. 903.41 crores.

This significant financial commitment is aimed at establishing transformative green energy projects, demonstrating the state’s unwavering dedication to achieving its renewable energy (RE) goal of 10 GW by 2030.

During its 6th meeting, the SWC gave the green light to major investments in the Renewable Energy sector, primarily focusing on two large wind energy projects and several solar power initiatives. These diverse projects underscore the state’s multifaceted approach to expanding its renewable energy portfolio.

HPCL Renewable & Green Energy Limited is set to lead the development of a 48 MW wind energy project in Umerkote, Nawarangpur district. Concurrently, ONGC Tripura Power Company Limited will spearhead a 49.5 MW wind energy project in Astaranga, Puri district. Combined, these wind energy projects represent a substantial investment of Rs. 881.28 crores.

In addition to wind energy, the SWC approved several solar power projects. Visaka Industries Limited will implement a 0.72 MW solar project in Maneswar, Sambalpur district, while ITC will establish a 0.8 MW solar project in Jatani, Khordha district.

AMP Energy will undertake a 2.2 MW solar project in Kansbahal, Sundergarh district, and Odisha Television Limited will set up a 1 MW solar project in Sarua, Khordha district. The cumulative investment for these solar projects amounts to Rs. 22.13 crores.

The newly approved projects, collectively boasting a capacity of 102.22 MW, represent a significant milestone in Odisha’s renewable energy landscape. The state government’s steadfast commitment to promoting green energy is evident through these initiatives.

Through GRIDCO, the state-designated Nodal Agency, the Energy Department is actively engaged in fostering sustainable and renewable energy sources within Odisha. This dedicated effort underscores the government’s proactive approach to environmental conservation and energy diversification.

To date, the SWC of the Energy Department has approved a remarkable total of Rs. 3723.57 crores in investment proposals for the Renewable Energy Sector under the Odisha Renewable Energy Policy, 2022. These investments are poised to generate a combined capacity of 499.48 MW, contributing significantly to the state’s renewable energy goals.
