The Sultanate of Oman achieved a 7% increase in total electricity generation, reaching 8,152.3 gigawatts per hour (GWh) by the end of March 2024.
This substantial growth, compared to 7,619.6 GWh in the same period of 2023, highlights the nation’s commitment to strengthening its energy infrastructure and meeting the growing needs of its population.
Regional Production Highlights
Statistics from the National Centre for Statistics and Information (NCSI) revealed notable regional contributions. The governorates of North Al Batinah, South Al Batinah, and Al Dhahirah collectively generated 5,049.8 GWh.
Muscat Governorate experienced a 30.9% increase, reaching 29.8 GWh, while Dhofar Governorate saw a 17.2% rise, reaching 1,103.7 GWh.
Furthermore, the North and South Al Sharqiyah Governorates together increased production by 15.3%, reaching 1,853.6 GWh. However, Al Wusta Governorate faced a 52.4% decrease, producing 29.5 GWh. Meanwhile, Musandam Governorate saw a 7.2% increase, generating 76.7 GWh.
Net Electricity Generation
Importantly, Oman’s net electricity generation increased by 6.8% through March 2024, reaching 7,879.6 GWh.
Water Production Remains Stable
In contrast to electricity generation, the total amount of water produced in Oman remained relatively stable, amounting to 122.11 million cubic meters by the end of March 2024. This figure is comparable to the 122.13 million cubic meters produced during the same period in 2023.
