OZON Pharmaceuticals to Build $80 Million Manufacturing Facility in Dubai Industrial City

OZON Pharmaceuticals has signed a “musataha agreement” to establish a large-scale pharmaceutical manufacturing facility in Dubai Industrial City, a prominent industrial and logistics hub in the region.

The project represents a substantial investment, with plans to serve key markets across the Middle East and North Africa.

The new facility, located within Dubai Industrial City (part of TECOM Group PJSC), will span 150,700 square feet and require a total investment of over AED 293 million (approximately $80 million) across two phases. The facility is anticipated to be fully operational by next year.

The musataha agreement was formalized during a ceremony attended by high-ranking government officials, including Dr. Thani bin Ahmed Al Zeyoudi (Minister of State for Foreign Trade), Omar Al Suwaidi (Undersecretary of the Ministry of Industry and Advanced Technology), and Alexey Gruzdev (Deputy Minister of Industry and Trade of the Russian Federation).

The signing took place on the sidelines of the INNOPROM 2024 industrial trade fair in Ekaterinburg.

Saud Abu Alshawareb, Executive Vice President of Industrial at TECOM Group, emphasized the importance of local pharmaceutical manufacturing for bolstering supply chains, improving response times, and enhancing self-sufficiency in the healthcare sector.

He noted the alignment of this project with the UAE’s Operation 300bn, Make it in the Emirates, and Dubai Economic Agenda ‘D33’ strategies.

Dr. Mustafa Khalaf, General Manager at OZON Pharmaceuticals, highlighted the company’s vision for the facility: “Our vision is to positively impact the manufacturing and healthcare sectors in the UAE, the wider Middle East, and the CIS regions by ensuring a consistent supply of high-quality medicines. We also aim to foster technological innovation and elevate healthcare delivery standards in these regions.”

The first phase of the project, backed by an AED 110 million investment, will boast a production capacity exceeding 300 million tablets annually.

Upon completion, the facility will cater to key markets in the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) and regional countries such as Iraq, Morocco, Algeria, and Libya.

The initial phase will employ 100 skilled professionals in quality assurance, pharmaceutical control, and manufacturing.

The facility will incorporate cutting-edge medicine tracking systems to ensure traceability and security throughout the product development lifecycle.

OZON Pharmaceuticals is the latest addition to Dubai Industrial City’s growing roster of healthcare and pharmaceutical companies.

The industrial hub already hosts over 1,000 local, regional, and international businesses, including prominent names like Standard Carpets, Himalaya Wellness, IFFCO Group, and Unilever. Over 300 factories are currently operational within Dubai Industrial City.
