Petrobras has successfully achieved its primary objective at the Uchuva-2 well, confirming the significant natural gas discovery made in 2022 during the drilling of the Uchuva-1 well.
The Uchuva-2 well provides crucial information for developing a new exploration and production frontier in Colombia, solidifying the region’s potential for natural gas resources.
Uchuva-2 Well Location and Progress
The Uchuva-2 well, spudded on June 19th, is situated in deep water offshore Colombia, 31 km from the coast at a depth of 804 meters.
The well is currently progressing through five phases, with the gas-bearing interval confirmed in phase 4 through wireline logging. Further characterization of the discovery will be conducted through laboratory analyses.
Consortium to Continue Exploration and Production
The consortium, comprising Petrobras as the operator (44.44% working interest) and Ecopetrol (55.56% working interest), will continue operations to complete the drilling of the Uchuva-2 well to its intended depth.
The aim is to characterize the conditions of the discovered reservoirs, with a formation test planned for the end of 2024.
Alignment with Petrobras’ Long-Term Strategy
Petrobras’ activities in the Tayrona Block align with the company’s strategic focus on replenishing oil and gas reserves by exploring new frontiers.
By collaborating with partners, Petrobras aims to ensure global energy demands are met during the ongoing energy transition.
