RES, a prominent renewable energy developer, has received a significant endorsement from Ånge Municipality in Sweden for its proposed Storåsen wind farm.
The project, comprising 24 turbines, is set to contribute 500 GWh of electricity to the SE2 energy mix, fulfilling half the energy requirements of Ljungaverk’s hydrogen plant.
Enthusiasm for Green Development in Ånge
Rasmus Adelswärd, the project developer at RES for Storåsen, expressed delight at the municipality’s decision.
He highlighted RES’s growing presence in Ånge and their commitment to the region’s green development.
Adelswärd pointed to their previous projects, Björnberget and Gubbaberget wind farms, as evidence of their dedication to advancing renewable energy solutions in the area.
Municipal Support and Anticipation of Further Approvals
The municipal approval signifies that Ånge supports the wind farm’s location and recognizes the suitability of the land for wind power generation.
The next step involves obtaining official permission from the county administrative board before construction can commence.
Matilda Afzelius, CEO of RES in the Nordics, emphasized the significance of the municipality’s support and expressed hope that other municipalities would follow suit, facilitating renewable energy development across Sweden.
Strategic Location and Local Benefits
The Storåsen project site boasts excellent wind conditions and avoids environmentally sensitive areas like nature reserves. It aligns with the guidelines outlined in Ånge municipality’s master plan.
Notably, the majority of the project area is designated as a national interest zone for wind farms, underscoring its suitability for harnessing wind energy.
Beyond energy production, the Storåsen wind farm promises substantial local benefits. It aims to create new jobs during development and construction, with an estimated one job per four turbines.
Additionally, the local community will participate in RES Powerbank, RES’s initiative for sponsorship and village funds, further enhancing the project’s positive impact.
A Step Towards a Green Energy Hub
Matilda Afzelius concluded by highlighting Ånge municipality’s vision of becoming a green energy hub.
The approval of Storåsen, with its potential for renewable energy production, strong grid connection, and green hydrogen generation, marks a significant step towards realizing this vision.
The project aims to attract new industrial establishments and generate employment opportunities, showcasing how renewable development can create substantial local value.
