International Companies Vie for Major Saudi Highway Project

Saudi Arabia’s Roads General Authority (RGA) has revealed that a total of 69 companies have submitted bids for a significant highway project connecting the Aseer region to Jazan.

This project has garnered substantial interest from both domestic and international construction firms.

Among the bidders, 37 are prominent global players in the project development sector. Notable contenders include Spanish group Acciona Construccion, AtkinsRealis from Canada, Bouygues Batiment from France, as well as Indian construction giant Larsen & Toubro (L&T) and Hyundai E&C from Korea.

The 136-km highway project is being executed through a collaborative effort between RGA and the National Center for Privatization & PPP (NCP), following a design-build-finance-operate-maintain (DBFOM) model. This model leverages private sector expertise and financing to deliver public infrastructure projects efficiently.

Upon awarding the contract, RGA anticipates the completion of the entire project within a 30-year timeframe. The highway, featuring three lanes in each direction, will stretch from the Al Farah area in the Aseer region to the Red Sea coast, passing through the Jazan region.

The ambitious highway project includes the construction of six intersections, 57 bridges with a total length of 18 km, and 11 tunnels extending 9.2 km. These infrastructure elements are designed to enhance connectivity and ensure smooth traffic flow between the two regions, contributing to the socioeconomic development of the area.
