Severn Trent Green Power Expands Renewable Energy Portfolio with New Solar Farms

Severn Trent Green Power (STGP), a leading UK renewable energy company, is set to significantly increase its renewable energy output by constructing three new large-scale solar farms, with a potential fourth on the horizon.

This strategic move marks a major step in the company’s commitment to a diversified and sustainable energy future.

Through a development rights agreement with international solar company Elgin Energy, STGP will transform its renewable energy generation from approximately 350 GWh/y to around 500 GWh/y (electrical equivalent).

The three solar farms will inject an additional 150 GWh of capacity into the national grid, with the potential to increase to over 185 GWh once the fourth site is operational. This additional capacity can power approximately 70,000 homes annually.

While STGP continues to focus on anaerobic digestion, it recognizes the immense potential of solar, wind, and hydropower. This project signifies the company’s dedication to diversifying its energy portfolio and contributing to a cleaner and more sustainable UK energy landscape.

The solar farms will be built across three counties – Leicestershire, Warwickshire, and North Yorkshire – with a fourth site in Shropshire likely to be added later. These carefully chosen locations offer ideal conditions for maximizing solar power generation, ensuring a substantial and reliable source of sustainable energy for the National Grid.

The projects are classified as “ready to build,” meaning they have secured grid contracts, planning consents, and land leases. This allows STGP to efficiently construct, own, and operate the solar farms, leveraging its proven expertise in managing renewable energy assets.

This collaboration between STGP and Elgin Energy further solidifies STGP’s position as a major player in both anaerobic digestion and renewable energy. The partnership reflects a shared commitment to a low-carbon future and a vision of a climate-neutral world by 2050.

Severn Trent Green Power’s investment in large-scale solar farms represents a significant milestone in the UK’s transition to renewable energy sources. By expanding its portfolio and embracing diverse technologies, STGP is playing a crucial role in achieving a more sustainable and environmentally friendly energy future.
