Sungrow to Provide Cutting-Edge Energy Storage Solution for ENGIE’s Belgian Project

Sungrow, a global leader in photovoltaic inverters and energy storage systems, has been chosen to provide its innovative liquid-cooled battery energy storage system (BESS) solution, the PowerTitan, for the 800 MWh Vilvoorde BESS project in Belgium.

The project will be developed by ENGIE, an international utility group renowned for its expertise in low-carbon energy and services.

The Vilvoorde BESS project, with a power capacity of 200 MW/800 MWh, is poised to be one of the largest energy storage systems ever installed in Europe.

Notably, it marks Sungrow’s first BESS project in Belgium. Scheduled to be connected to the grid in 2025, this project will supply power to up to 96,000 households.

Sungrow will supply 320 units of its advanced liquid-cooled energy storage system, PowerTitan, for the ENGIE BESS project in Vilvoorde.

The PowerTitan offers an efficient, safe, and innovative solution that enables ENGIE to deliver reliable energy.

The PowerTitan’s compact design and pre-assembled delivery significantly reduce on-site installation time by 50%. Furthermore, its back-to-back installation scheme minimizes the system’s footprint, making it particularly suitable for large-scale energy storage plants.

The liquid-cooled technology ensures enhanced battery longevity by providing an intelligent temperature control system, maintaining a maximum battery temperature difference of just 2.5 degrees Celsius.

All these features combined result in optimized CAPEX and OPEX costs, contributing to a project that is both successful and sustainable in every aspect.

Dr. James Li, Sungrow’s ESS Director for Europe, expressed his enthusiasm: “Sungrow is excited to embark on this new project with ENGIE and to deliver our first BESS project in Belgium – a pioneering energy storage project of this magnitude in mainland Europe.

Energy storage is crucial in facilitating a secure and clean energy transition, and Sungrow is dedicated to supporting a brighter, more sustainable future for everyone. We remain eager to collaborate with our partners in building a bridge to a sustainable future.”
