Tesla Revs Up Model 3 compact sedan with New Performance Variant

Tesla has officially launched a new Performance variant of the recently refreshed Model 3 sedan, aiming to address declining sales figures.

The new Model 3 Performance, starting at $52,990, boasts a range of enhancements to attract buyers.

Tesla engineers have equipped the new Model 3 Performance with an active damping system and adaptive suspension, promising improved handling and comfort. The vehicle boasts a 296-mile battery range and accelerates from 0 to 60 mph in a mere 2.9 seconds, thanks to its impressive 510 horsepower.

Furthermore, this new iteration offers a 32% increase in peak power, 16% more peak torque, and 5% less drag compared to its predecessor. It also consumes less energy, partly due to a new-generation drive unit and aerodynamic enhancements like a rear diffuser and spoiler. A subtle facelift distinguishes it from other versions of the refreshed Model 3.

The Model 3 Performance retains the comprehensive changes introduced with the recent refresh. These include an ambient light bar encircling the cabin, improved sound dampening, upgraded materials, a stalk-less steering wheel, and a new touchscreen display.

Tesla’s timing for this launch is strategic, as the company faces challenges including a significant drop in deliveries in the first quarter of 2024 and recent layoffs affecting over 10% of its global workforce. The financial impact of these setbacks will become clearer when Tesla releases its quarterly results.

Orders placed now for the new Model 3 Performance in North America indicate an estimated delivery window of May/June 2024. Tesla hopes this performance-oriented variant will reinvigorate sales and attract buyers seeking a high-performance electric sedan.
